OP here, /e/. And I have some great news.
After taking it to another shop that works on transmissions for foreign cars, it's been determined that the transmission is not fried, rather the hydraulics for it need to be replaced. This means that I will not have to fork over nearly as much money as was predicted in order to fix it. So, as you can imagine, I've chosen to have the car worked on. It's currently in said shop, and should be out by sometime next week.
I am beyond happy and relieved with this.
