But the primary reason is that, well, a great freaking deal of these images can actually be looked upon like fine art. Sometimes it's got a really awesome pose, or is a situation that just cannot be replicated in reality (for numerous various reasons), either for legal reasons, or it would just break the laws of physics; or even if some of the images we see and love could be replicated, they would have a higher chance of looking like cheap cosplay for a porno or something, or look just plain silly, really painful if not so well-drawn, or not have as much impact as the original art, on a real girl; and we know that many of those images would just look more silly than hot anyway.
At least, that's my perspective from a more artistic standpoint. I dunno, it's odd, I have a pretty large collection myself, and half the time, I look through them more for artistic recreation, than for a fap-fest or something.
You're not alone (if much of 4chan, and other sites with nice galleries are anything to show), and I'm too busy enjoying things I like to worry about being an outcast, and if the context of the thread title, and the content within, is anything to go by, I doubt it.
