The tension is that they keep finding themselves in situations that are quasi-incestuous because everyone else doesn't know they're mother and son. I like scenarios where the embarrassment is inescapable because of the circumstances. In this case the entire art school thinks she's a professional nude model so they don't even realize she's humiliated by the constant exposure. They all think her son is her lover so don't realize sticking them together in compromising ways is humiliating for them both. And they both have to deal with it because refusing would expose the lie.
I like when the embarrassing situation has a tiny bit of plausibility. Like I'm not a fan of a girl being nude in public just because her clothes exploded one day. But I do like if she loses a bet that she thought was a sure thing and has to accept the consequences. Or if humiliation is enforced as an official punishment in some capacity and she violated a rule. Or if she agrees to something that turns out to be more than what she thought she was agreeing to and then can't back out. Like a situation where a businesswoman daydreams during a meeting and when her grim boss asks if anyone is willing to take care of the issue she says yes even though she didn't hear what the issue was. Everyone thanks her for being so brave and it turns out she agreed to be the stripper at a rich client's office party.
