If they drop to the floor, it is either a processing error due to any of a whole bunch of reasons for it (normally spotted by the inspector), which prevents establishing the link between a physical rigid and another that it should connect to, or the absence of a joint to hold them in place. If they twitch randomly, it means that either the gravity or colliding rigids are trying to push physical rigids beyond the limits of a joint that affects them. If the mesh deforms erratically, unnaturally, it could be a weighing issue or an issue in the rigid/join parameters.
