>>2795021Our protagonist moves to a rural Japanese village to take over the shrine maiden duties of her grandmother when the latter realizes she's too old to keep the place clean any more. One gimmick this shrine has is that visitors can donate to receive a strip of wishing-paper upon which they may write down their desires. Many people wish for health, prosperity, or safety - all wishes that the protagonist wishes she could grant. She starts to feel bad about the limited amount that she can do from her isolated cabin until one day she receives a rather different wish:
>"I wish a cute girl would leave her panties underneath the park bench!"At first, she believes it's a prank. But that evening when she's walking home from a run to the grocery store, can't get the thoughts out of her head and decides to go through with it, leaving her underwear in the designated spot and enjoying a breezy walk home. She's astonished that she actually went through with that, moreso the next day when she gets another wish in the same vein.
Assuming it's some kind of prankster, she decides to keep going along with the wishes - knowing that eventually, she'll be able to catch him in the act when he slips up. Totally not because she's enjoying this or anything. As the wishes ramp up in, we'll say, 'Daring-ness' she learns more and more about the layout of this town and the inhabitants who live there.
I've actually started writing this, though I'm stuck as I can't think of that many good 'mid-range' wishes for her to try to fulfill.
