I believed it because you already mentioned that the two stories shared a universe, and it was the kind of cameo appearance that very carefully doesn't rule out much about what happens in-between. It's pretty much a given that Aria and Medea will stick together enough to make a scene like this, after all.
It's a good cameo if you want to keep it, but yeah I agree that there's too much undefined about their post-camp history to do much more with them.
