The primary reason I do this the way I do it now is because the best chance to get through to the new posters is to engage them on a personal level.
If all I did was flash them a link or dump a copy-pastad introduction message then they would feel like they were being blown off.
That being said, I've far from perfected my approach. (Not to mention I'll be the first to admit my written mannerisms come across as condescending by default.) So, I'm open to feedback from the community, as well as the new posters.
