>>1622611Soon, the year will come to an end. The seasons will start all over again. You reach for your phone and clicked a button. The clock says it's 23:55.
You instinctively swiped your way past the home screen into Facebook, scrolling through the feeds, anxious for something, but you don't really know what or why. There was mum, dad and the funny uncle. There were a handful of friends and non-friends. There was your old school gang. But it feels lonely at a time like this. That special someone hasn't replied.
"It's going to be 2020 in five minutes. Don't you have any resolutions for the New Year?"
You stared onto the spaces between the words printed on your screen, still waiting for that reply. Then a smell wafts into your nostrils, breaking your fixation. You turn around and see Saki in the full moon-lit deck. She is holding a porcelain pig in her hands.
"What's that", you ask, naturally curious.
"I made it myself! Cute, isn't it?"
"No, I mean the smell."
"It's a secret! <3 Do you like it?", she answers in a cheeky kind of way.
You open up your nose, inhaling a little harder than usual, chasing the scent. It smells like a mix of a woman's perfume, soap, green tea and old joss sticks.
"Say, why don't we try something different this time? Something to remember?"
You turn your focus to Saki, who is now sitting on the deck, and rather close to you. You can see that she's blushing like a baboon's rump.
She snatches the phone from your hand and tosses it onto the deck.
"Do you want to do this?", you question, despite knowing what the answer could only be.
Saki doesn't say anything. She leans in for your lips, consuming them like there will be no next year.
Then the fireworks go off, becoming the music of the little dance between the two of you.
