Alternately you can contact the artist of an existing image and request a similar limited copyright as most artists copyright their works with a Creative Commons license that allows for this kind of easy copyright sharing.
Keep in mind this is much easier to do with artists in your home country. Assuming you're in the USA, for example, you will find it exponentially more difficult to try and get proper copyright documentation from Japanese sources as you will have to satisfy both Japan AND the USA's copyright laws, which complicates matters at best.
