Also, the trick to grinding in this game is to focus on JP and good job skills. You need the spells and abilities to support your combat level, or you will get beat down. Blind levels work for story fights with locked difficulty, but then you'll run into a couple random chocobos in the forest and they will rape you hard.
Things to shoot for:
Ninja Dual Wield + Monk Bare Handed (can be either Ninja or Monk for this)
Samurai Blade Grasp + High Brave (almost immune to physical)
Highest evasion mantle available on everyone for most of the game, until you start finding rare accessories or master the Blade Grasp
Move+ skills
Just those few basic things and a smattering of support will get you through most of the game with few problems.
