If the USA laws could be tweaked a bit to once again allow contracts of 5 or 10 years of "indentured servitude" for the poor to pay off debts to the rich/companies, then maybe scenes like that shown in this picture can become commonplace in public shops.
It's all a matter of time. In the 1980's, the top 5% owned about 20% of the pie, thus leaving 80% for the other 95% to make their personal fortunes and daily living. Around 2004, the top 5% owned about 48% (as a consequence of the huge tax cuts and exemptions). Thus, the other 95% has to make their personal fortunes out of the remaining 52% which certainly means there will be a much larger amount of very poor. This gap needs to be widened more before some sort of economic crisis occurs that will make it politically feasible to pass variations of "indentured servitude" contracts as means to pay off debt. Since I'm well off with solid career, house paid off already, investments, and inheritance yet to come, I will probably be well-placed to fully enjoy the fruits of future society. Let's look forward to that time when servitude contracts are allowed as debt payments.
