Dusk Maiden of Amnesia (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia)
12 episodes + 1 ova, complete
Before I get started on the review, some background. The author of the source is "Maybe," an exclusively hentai mangaka. He wrote one non-hentai story that was a romance with just the right hentai author ecchi touch. That manga is Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, 54 chapters across 10 volumes. The completed manga was turned into an anime, which I will review below.
=Story=
The overall story is well written, and the main character that you care about has a fully developed plot line. The story is complete, and it makes sense and feels fulfilling at the end.
This series is a psychological thriller and a romance, best watched in a dark room. The primary story follows a young boy being spirited away. They create a good spooky ambience (including cleverly hiding the kanji for "death" among others in the shadows. While well written, the anime is only 12 episodes, so don't expect crazy development.
The ending of manga is not fully realized at the end of the anime. The anime ends in a place that tells a complete story, but the actual manga ending has deeper meaning. If you are sucked into the plot by the end of the anime then read the manga starting where the anime ends (around chapter 50ish).
=Ecchi Quality=
This was written by a hentai author and rated R, it but sadly it has no explicit nudity (no nipples, no bush). There is fan service thoughout, but the ecchi here is used to make a point. The main character Yuuko is seen naked a few times, with clear nude outlines of boob and butt (and she is damn hot), but she is seen naked to push plot. The ecchi has a purpose, and it was used well. There is definite eroero factor, but this is not one you fap to.
=Overall=
This series is a favorite. I watch it every Halloween because it creates that vibe for me. It has a dark and serious story, but it strikes a balance with engaging thriller and good comedy/ero. Plus Yuuko is best girl, so fuck you kid.
