Pictured is a circa 1993 cover from one of the oldest Sailor Moon doujinshi I could find. I'm sure there must be 4 and 8 colour doujinshi made from that time period or earlier. Heck, JPEG (aka JPG) was approved as a format only one year earlier, so I bet many people were still working with monitors displaying 256 colours as GIF was the next best dominant standard with its 256 amazing colours. Back then Apple was monochrome while Wintel had colour. Apple can get away with that because their products are premium.
