Honestly I don't think it is actually "eating shit and not loading properly" as much as the video CDNs only serve so much traffic at a given point and just silently fail if capacity is reached.
Fun story, some years ago I actually made a youtube-dl extractor for iwara so I could backup my "Favorites" playlist with metadata, pic-related, and it only took one successful run for the admins to notice and apply a hidden quick-fix to break HTML parsing. Within a day at that. It wasn't like multi-threading downloads or anything like that, but my IP probably stood out like a sore thumb traffic-wise.
