I was hoping that people would see that while it was not fair-skinned, the curves and shapes of her abdomen and back were still there. In the other "brownifications" or "blackifications", they seem more like a blob of colour with a lot of the curvature of the body being lost.
Also, if the idea is to convey that the depicted character is black and not brown, then ashy or not, it definitely looks like the author meant a black person was in that image. Sure, add some orange to reduce the ash factor....
