>>1393942>LOL, pirates raging at pirates. No, identity theft is a problem. Such as someone trying to make it look like he did the scanlation when it was actually done by someone else. I remember a con where someone told me they are staff of some group that made a certain presentation possible. <-- the best part of that was that I was actually one of that staff. Sometimes, people try to steal someone else's reputation as a way of creating enough reputation where they can approach others for privileges, impress someone enough to get onto their staff, etcetera. At one con, several people tried to fool the workers taking care of a bunch of equipment into thinking that they were the relief team sent to take over. Those fakers were trying to steal the gear once they replaced the con staff.
To keep this post relevant to this thread, I remember two sets of people that had obtained Pinesalad's Dirty Pair fandubs (3rd gen copy). The audio was slightly off at some locations, so both groups retimed it. One group (a clique of anime fans) added their credits, whereas the anime promotion society retimed audio onto laserdisc episodes with TBC and boosted colour when making the master tape so that copies would have the desired target quality; it was a thoughtful group. Credit was left to Pinesalad. Copies spread around and Pam found out and presumably got mad, BUT had confused the anime society (not taking credit) with the clique (taking credit). At the next bay area convention, one officer of the anime society caught up to Pam and explained the difference, so I assume Pam & Pinesalad stopped blaming the anime promotion society for what the clique did.
