Not speaking for everyone here but, I appreciate drawfriend efforts, but they need to be sharp, like the mermaid drawfriend.
My advice is try to trace/copy some others' works (in private), and develop your own style as you learn from them.
This is what I did when I dabbled a few years ago, but there's so much else to do (especially now that I'm a regular at /vr/), plus other more realistic things I'm doing, I just don't have the time right now.
Not that I don't enjoy/appreciate art practice, mine or someone else's, but art for the public needs to be sharp, in private you can do whatever you like, especially to hone your skills.
