https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4aZJcSh2XQ for practicing find a picture that has thicker darker lines that way the majority of creating a layer mask is just using the magic wand tool and then refining the edge (by right clicking) so that it sits right on that black line. For color I kind of explain it in the video, but I usually do a two layer method.
First layer is usually just linear burn and multiple to give it just a flat dark brown color.
Second layer is the original where I use the burn tool a few times until its very contrasting, then I use the color tool while having a brown selected so that it changes the over-saturated most likely red-orange body too a high contrast brown. I then change the opacity of the 2 layers to get it to the right color.
Also on that second layer is where I might add more colors like a deeper blush or something.
If I could find a decent screen recorder I would redo that shitty video with a better more in depth one.
