The pink hair girl he is trying to save was his girlfriend.
Instead of treasuring what he had, he fell into a cycle of otaku culture of escapism through figurines and 2d bewbs. Once he realized his real life relationships were falling apart it was too late to save them.
Once his relationship falls apart he dives further into his escapism so he won't feel the pain of losing her and it consumes him and it destroys him. Good catch with the loop btw. I too agree that it represents a never ending cycle.
I can relate to this video. With me it wasn't a romantic relationships (never been in one). It was college. Instead of dealing with the stress my classes caused i played shitty korean MMO grind fests. Because of that choice i neglected my school work and got worsening grades which increased my stress which fed more fuel into my escapism. I did that for three semesters until they finally kicked me out and i lost a full ride scholarship.
It took me 6 years to get out of that pit of depression i caused myself. I almost didn't make it. Im making another go at school again now and its been going a lot better. Im confident ill make it through this time and im making quite a few good friends.
It gave me a new perspective. It took time but I turned my overwhelming apathy and nihilism into something constructive instead of destructive.
