Ranma was pretty great. Once Takahashi established a good cast of characters with developing personalities and interactions, she really got the ball rolling with the whole "Anything Goes" martial arts vs increasingly ridiculous and specialised ways of combat. Almost without exception, the best episodes were those where Ranma was truly the underdog and had to develop new techniques or strategies to get ahead.
My only complaint with the series is that it introduced a bit too many permanent supporting characters to the cast. Both Ukyo and Mousse ended being irrelevant or the butt end of an easy gag because there was simply no room for their personalities to develop and it was difficult to care for them. In fact, Mousse was pretty alright when he was a returning character here and then, but the moment he joined the permanent cast, he entirely fell to the sidelines.
