I'd also assume that it's simply artistic license and a more standard material.
... On the other hand, if you're a maid with cleaning as well as possibly touching dirty things being part of the job, being able to simply wash the hands normally rather then having to change the gloves (or having to wear another pair gloves over the uniform-gloves) might make it the most logical choice of material.
