Ironically I think it's because of titty ninja shows like Senran Kagura that arrived to fill the niche. Both a blessing and a curse, they're safe enough to have spinoff material and merchandise and not ecchi enough to warrant be borderline H. Companies would rather have a Konosuba or Senran Kagura than Queen's blade these days. Fanservice-heavy over ecchi is the rule, and that's a shame.
All that aside, I think it would be great to discuss the many ecchi shows that come and go. At the very least it would spotlight some forgotten gems that have a surprisingly large amount of content. Never underestimate the nip autism possible when they latch onto their favorite series that only lasts one season.
