Commissioned translations have been a fairly large portion of translations since the early 2010s. The only thing that regularly got translated was vainilla and some of the super popular stuff.
Vainilla still gets translated and super popular stuff is all with fakku now (Though you can still find it in nhentai and the like).
NTR, mindbreak, hypnosis, guro, rape, loli, etc have been mostly on a per-commission basis for almost a decade now.
You can actually see this in Yaoi. As a rule of thumb, that's mostly un-paid translations and you only get vainilla stuff.
As an aside, you don't really want the free stuff anyway, it either sucks dicks or they come out at 1/10 of the speed for commissioned translations. The average cost for a commissioned 20 pages doujin is 40-60 dollars, it's not the end of the world if you pool some cash and pay for it. I think there's a patreon for TSF run by a dude that manages the money pooled to pay for most TSF translations around.
