Stage 0: Unaffected
Stage 1: Patients begin to smile with some resistance
Stage 2: Patients faces begin to contort into a wide grin, eyes forced open
Stage 3: Fungus that causes the virus has permanently scarred facial tissue, but despite extensive nerve damage, the smile is kept in place
Stage 4: Rapid senescence (aging) visible in patients, brain is in the late Alzheimer's stages
