Also I like the idea of a counterpart because this is supposed to be a "mascot" creature.
I'm going to call it "Bugbear" so the counterpart should be something that competes for the same ecological niche, "Boogeyman" for example; or that predates/ combats it like a heroic figure.

Yeah, someone could argue that this could be some sort of SMT demon, but I feel like that's not what you are going for.
