the other day i almost hit two cyclists with my car because they were crossing the road even though i had the right of way

27 professional racers died during a race in the years since 2003, when UCI made helmets mandatory. These 27 are excluding known cardiac causes.
12 racers died in the two decades prior to this rule, including Andrey Kivilev which triggered this uci rule.
Medical care and knowledge about the brain has increased during this time. But so has the number of cyclists.

Nope, BITD you were sized on frames differently. The classic "fist full of seatpost" or standover the bike(with the riding shoes) and lift it up. If you got an inch-2inches from the ground on each wheel it fits.

This is also why you might see many vintage frames in larger sizes, they sized them taller back then, and since the stems were mostly one height(no nitto technomics) you wanted enough stack to run the stem up, or slammed.

Modern bikes always look weird to me.

Yeah, it saved me from potential brain damage. I tend to ride off-road on uneven terrain and I can reach some fast speeds sometimes. Plus, I don't trust the motorists around me; if I were to slam my head from a collision, then at least my head isn't going to go straight into the front of some retards 4x4.

I don’t know if you guys watch or have heard of the show “hard knocks” about the nfl, but I was watching the second to last episode and one of the players had this emotional story about how he was hit by a car on his bike when he was 9 years old, broke bones, in a coma for two weeks, almost died. He’s crying while retelling it, how scared he and his family were, etc.

He’s telling this story on the backdrop showing him riding a bike around on streets, while wearing no helmet. The retardation is unbelievable

So you recognize the value and safety that a helmet provides, wearing them in some situations, but still refusing to wear them in others? in my younger HS and college days I never wore a helmet. I was coming of age in the height of the whole fixie dirtbag indie sleeze era and no one wore helmets back then. I am so lucky that nothing happened given how reckless we were.

I never stopped riding but once I got a nicer all-road/gravel type bike it put me on the path of revamping and maturing my whole approach and now I don't even go for a test ride around the block without my helmet on. I see parents with little kids out on our greenbelt trails with no helmets and it's genuinely upsetting to see how irresponsible they're being with their children. They're not even 'poor and ignorant' types who don't know better, they probably actually just think wearing a helmet is gay and for pussies.

i pretty much always see kids wearing helmets if theyre with their parents. when kids are biking alone, especially the blacks who are doing wheelies, biking in the dark with no lights, etc. they never wear helmets. i wish i could see many of these kids brains splattered on the road.
