>>2028724Well, even the KiHa 40s are currently being phased out by JR Hokkaido and eventually JR Shikoku too, so only West JR and JR Kyushu will still be using them (number in brackets denote how many cars were inherited from JNR)
JR Hokkaido (157): Currently being replaced by H100 Series
JR East (219): Fully phased out by March 2021
JR Central (59): Fully phased out by March 2016
West JR (257): 252 cars are currently in service
JR Shikoku (53): Plans to replace them with Hybrid DMUs starting in 2025
JR Kyushu (142): 106 cars are currently in service
As far as JNR stuff is concerned, here's what each company currently has for regular services at the moment afaik:
JR Hokkaido: KiHa 40 and 54 DMUs (Currently being phased out)
JR East: 205 Series EMU (The last of them will be phased out starting in 2025)
JR Central: 213 Series EMU (Currently being phased out as more 315 Series EMU are built, I'm not counting their 211s since they were built from 1988 to 1991)
West JR: Still has a bunch of JNR Era EMUs and KiHa 40s
JR Shikoku: Older JNR Era DMUs such as KiHa 32, 40, 54, and 185
JR Kyushu: Some older JNR Era EMUs plus KiHa 40 and 185 DMUs
