Interurbans must've sucked if they could be put out of business by pre-Interstate roads. Also, doesn't this help disprove the myth that people liked living in cities until Big Oil/Big Car brainwashed people into moving to the suburbs?

Downtown Van Alstyne still has interurban tracks visible in the old main thoroughfare. They just restored one of the cars as well and have it on display nearby. Very cool, but makes me seethe to think about what was lost. Also, the dart tracks technically extend northwards up to here from the parker road station, but they are only used to haul gravel freight which derails 1x per year.

why would I ride dart? The first and only time I did, there was a black man at the front of the car, punching the air aggressively, in some sort of imagined boxing match, muttering to no one. No authorities were there to stop him and life went on. Not exposing myself to that in the future.

Went and rode it today for the opening day celebration. They had some little festivities at each station. Rode from end to end and it was packed the whole way. Was glad to see so many people using it.

do they get mad their neighbors mowing their lawns too? if you live in a suburb or city noise is guaranteed. trains really arent that loud unless you live with a window fronting the track. also if you can get used to the sound it will never bother you again.
