THEN, if something doesn't perform right FOR ME, I'll replace it with something that does. but even then, I usually don't have to spend much to level up to what I need. there's so many good designs whose patents have expired, you can get decent, reliable parts for peanuts.
when I fix my normie friends' bikes, it's just a generic cable kit, a KMC chain, maybe a cheap tire. usually their parts just need oil and tuning, they all still work even if performance is low. they don't care about high performance, they've never experienced it, they're not good enough riders to push that envelope.
modern tourney is comparable to the first several gens of XT, probably.
