Trams are just easier to deal with, because both the Alstom and Bombardier versions are patented, locking you into using their vehicles. Meanwhile, if you went with a standard gauge tram system, you could go with Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens, CAF, Stadler, Skoda, you name it, you got it.

The Bomardier Guided Light Transit is legally considered a bus due to the fact that it can technically be used off the guiderail, though the Caen GLT uses a pantograph system, which means that like the Translohr, the GLT in Caen cannot leave the guiderail, because doing so would break the circuit and thus prevent the vehicle from moving.
