most of the comparisons they make are to road bikes of early 1970s with single pivot side pull calipers

they are right about the dish being a problem
but I have seen wheels with asymmetric flange diameters so that the spokes are the same length left to right while still being dished
and even more rare are rims that have a built in offset that evens out the dish
cannondale and mavic make some like this but I dont know of the others
