I get why it's a good idea to go underground but I don't get railway subways. Why not just pave it with asphalt like a regular road, especially with current day tech, you can fully automate it since it's made for one vehicle only going mostly straight and braking when needed. What possible advantage could rail have under the ground beneath a city? I thought rail was super fast but I've been asking myself this question since finding out that maximum speeds for subway trains is 120kmh and average speed is something like 40 to 60kmh. Thoughts?
