>>1323732Both Yes & No. There have been many steam locomotive construction programs but these are Remaking something old. Like the T1 5550 Trust and the A1 Tornado trust. Plus China was still making 2-8-2s and 2-10-2s into the 90s? Some of those even made it to the US and Britain.
But there hasn't been a New Modern Steam locomotive ever built. The closest was the ACE 3000 Project but it unfortunately never got of the ground. It was the product of the 70s oil crisis and many east coast Coal haunling railroads saw the potential of a new steam loco but the crisis ended and so did dreams of an ACE. The TLDR version of the ACE is that it was a Duplex Mountain Type (4-4-4-2 instead of 4-8-2) that had duel cabs and looked like a Car Body passenger diesel.
