What do you reckon is the best / cheapest way of getting into fixed riding?

Buy some shitty overpriced pre-made fixie from some crappy brand (or are there some brands for entry level fixies that don't suck / aren't wildly overpriced)?

Or get an old 70s - 90s road bike and convert it?

Say that you were hit by a car, at night time. No injuries and no noticeable damage. But the driver was probably still negligent, pulling out of a junction without looking, and hitting straight into you. HOWEVER, your front light may or may not have been working at the time, because it had recently been turning itself off randomly. You later realise this is due to the cheap Chinese batteries in there being too short and not making a good enough contact. You then replace those batteries with Energizers and the light works flawlessly.

Maybe in such a case you just shouldn't report it? Because if you did, the police might potentially give you a fine for not having working lights before you set out on your journey.

What do you reckon?
