Hey /n/
So I've decided to go and make an On30 scale replica of the 2' gauge locos and rolling stock used on the Billerica & Bedford Railroad in Massachusetts.
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billerica_and_Bedford_RailroadMy main motivation for doing this being that I happen to live in exactly in this area where the railroad used to operate in 1877, and am familiar with the bike trail that runs where the tracks used to be.
The main project would be somehow making a kitbash of some Bachmann products to replicate one of their wood-burning 0-4-4 engines, "Ariel". The engines were unique among 2' gauge equipment used in New England in that they were cab forwards; built to run backwards with the headlamp mounted on the drivers cab facing back and the cowcatcher mounted on the wood bunker. Information on exactly what livery I should use on this engine is hard to find and as you can guess, photographs from 1877 don't exactly give any hints, so I would need to find detailed information on what colors to use.
Once the engine is complete, I can probably obtain some generic jackson sharp coaches and combines (unlettered), and apply proper B&B decals to them. If I was really ambitious enough, I would make another replica of the other loco they used, "Puck", of essentially identical configuration and function to her sister Ariel.
Any tips for a first time kitbasher? Any resources?
