>>1652390>>1652766> How likely am I to fucking die if I go on a mainly road tour? I hear a lot of road cyclists talking about how car users can be fucking lethal to cyclistsUnlikely unless you're riding without lights in the dark. It might also depends on how people drive in your country and which kind of road and if they are used to see bicycles. To avoid most problem the tl;dr is make sure you're visible and check if there's a car coming behind you and in front of you.
In the countryside, the biggest issue is when cars overtake close to you at a dangerous speed for you (see pic related). Not many cars do that, but it can happen.
To avoid problems, make sure you're visible (lights on and yellow jacket at night or during shitty weather), bright clothes so they see you well during the day and listen and check behind you for cars.
If there's a car and you're near a turn, be more careful cause they might want to overtake you cause you're "small" even tho there can be an oncoming car they can't see yet. When it's the case the car overtaking you won't care to swerve to avoid the oncoming car.
When I get visibility and see a car in front of me I make signs to the car behind me so he slow down and don't put me in danger.
