I could think of plenty of things that cost just as much new that require no maintenance beyond cleaning.
mostly just hating the prices on decent bikes. not over engineered low orbit body rockets but decent bikes in general.
not just bikes but the economics of the day in general. my dad paid less than 100k for a 3 br 2ba home when I was a kid. these days your lucky to find a mobile home with same amenities that cost that much.
