just for reference as to what part goes where
iirc shimano had a system called "fingertip control" it involves a spring inside of the shift lever that provides resistance to oppose the derailleur spring
and this made its way from down tube and bar con shifters into some of the old thumb shifters, so that might be waiting for you, idk will have to look up some more stuff
