I have a 6-ish mile ride to work. Takes about 25 minutes by bike, or 35-45 by bus depending on driver, time of day and weather.
The bus route I take goes from the south part of the city, through downtown and up into the north part. The north part is incredibly poor, the south part varies. Downtown is downtown.
Going south to downtown in the morning, the bus driver is usually friendly, mostly commuters. Coming home, the bus is going north to south, and the driver is usually much more frustrated as the people riding the bus are coming from the rough part of the city.
Word on the street is that some BRT is coming soon, but with mayoral elections soon, we'll see what happens.
The two things I hate more than anything are driving and people, so driving a bus is pretty much my nightmare job. I have mad respect for people who manage to put up with that shit daily.
