Lets say a usual runway is now a large treadmill. The treadmill starts to roll backwards and therefor so does the plane. In order for the plane to stay in position relative to an observer standing next to the runway it has to throttle up a bit. If the treadmill starts to speed up, the plane must also give more gas so to speak. And according to the observer the plane is still standing still.
There must be a point where the plane can no longer throttle up to counter the backward motion of the treadmill, right?
If the treadmill has a set speed I'm sure the plane could take off, but assuming the treadmill counters every move the plane makes... I think I cannot take off.
