Is it okay to post them one by one? Too lazy / inept to make a combo image.
This isn't my first bike but it's the first one I cared about. Cadence, the 1997 Cannondale R900. Before I knew anything about bikes, about 7 years ago I found this bike, missing wheels and a few other bits in an alley. Full 600 tricolor / first gen ultegra. I knew Cannondale was a good company so I took it home and made it my mission to learn how to rebuild it. It was way more complicated than I ever imagined but after a couple years working on it on and off at the local co-op I got it running. The bike had had the shit ridden out of it, both derailleurs and both brakes were completely clapped out. I had to learn about octalink bottom brackets. I had to learn what bottom brackets were!
Throughout this process I had quite a few other bikes come and go, and I never really ended up riding this one that much because I was usually carrying stuff around or commuting in shitty weather. Nonetheless, it was a lot of fun. I held onto it in spite of only riding it a few times a year up until last summer when it was stolen off the roof of my van while I had drinks with some friends on my birthday. I went on a war path. I posted everywhere online and I scoured the shitty parts of town trying to find it.
I filed perhaps the most detailed bike related police report the VPD had ever received. I knew this bike inside and out. Nitto Neat bar, cinelli tape, 600 shifters, ultegra cranks, 105 derailleurs, ritchey spd pedals, carbon specialized seatpost, orange mavic open pro laced to a CODA hub on the front with aero bladed spokes, mismatched black open pro laced to an ultegra hub on the back because some bastard once rammed me from behind with his jeep.
After a week and a half of searching I got it back! But something was wrong. In her absence I had moved on. I felt nothing for her anymore. I put her on craigslist and sold her within 2 weeks. I hope this ol jackhammer is still out there somewhere.
