Larger Airships are much safer. Bigger an heavier ships don’t move as quickly, and are thus less in danger of being influenced by sudden wind gusts. They can handle bad weather better and more safely moor.
Large air ships are cheaper. Material needs and costs don’t increase as fast as the volume increases.
It is easier to increase the size of an airship than an airplane because you can increase the size in all dimensions. With an airplane you are limited to length and wingspan. Can’t use height. That means as you try to make plans larger the wingspan becomes too big too fast.
Compare the bottom two Zeppelins in pic related. One is the Graf Zeppelin and the other is the Hindenburg, correct scale. You can see the Hindenburg is slightly larger with a bigger diameter as well. How much more would you guess the Hindenburg can carry than the Graf Zeppelin? Just slightly less than twice as much (112 Tons compared to the 60 tons of the Graf)
The Hindenburg was only a small sample of what would be possible with size increases. See pic.
