posted last week about fixing up an old specialized my brother gave me.
i bought a new chain and put it on, as well as cleaned the bike.
when i was putting the rear wheel on, the rotor was catching on the brake pad. looking closer, the pad was fucking disgusting. i looked up how to clean it, took the pads off and cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.
then, i put the pads back on, and neither of the fucking wheels would stop when i pull the brake.
after some investigation, i figured out the pistons aren't extending properly. so i pumped them out, cleaned them and put mineral oil on them, and then levered the back in, wiping off excess. i did this like 10 times for each piston.
now the back wheel stops, but one piston does all the work and the other doesn't move.
and on the front caliper they just fucking quiver. i pull the brake up front and it just bottoms out with no resistance and the pads barely move.
i got tired of fucking with it and just accepted i only have one working brake now, but i don't know what to do next.
take it to a shop? put a new caliper on it?
