Ships are controlled by computers outside of ports, airliners are piloted by computers outside of airports and there's absolutely no difference between them and trains which could very well just run on autopilot aside from the stations which have to account for passengers getting in and out.
And it's not really an unsolvable issues just like in planes and boats.
You minimise human error in stuff that is too fast for a human to handle reliably and simply shove those people to other duties which aren't as mind-numbingly easy to automate. There's still plenty of trains out there which aren't just about going from point A to point B in the fastest possible time.
There are already unmanned trains out there. It simply requires investment and most rail companies are happy with what they have at the moment.
