It's fun enough to tell you that doing a proper version is worth it - though you'll still need at least semihorizontal dropouts or doing the math on the cogs and a halflink chain.
Outside of 80s-early 90s stuff and BSOs finding sliding dropouts is pretty hard. (this bike is both, 1991 Huffy Superia)
