Sleeper trains are intended for an unavoidable overnight trip, so at minimum ~10 hours. Such as Washington DC to Chicago, a ~16 hour overnight trip, you leave Washington DC at 4pm and arrive at Chicago the next morning just before 9am.
But in the US it's ~$80-150 for a coach seat overnight, or ~$400-650 depending on the season for a roomette.
On a 5-6 hour trip, just get the cheapest seat, even if you can't sleep, who cares? It's a few hours, you can deal with it.
