>>15579691930-1990 was the dark era of railroads in Sweden. Everything got nationalised, but the state had no interest in operating railroads, particularly passenger ones. So the railroad agency was filled to the brim with pointless managers.
Thankfully, the Stockholm County pried local services from the state's hands and quite possibly saved passenger services outside novelty trips between Stockholm and Gothenburg or Lund (Malmö was to be served by bus from Lund).
1990 saw a deregulation separating infrastructure from service operators and FUCKING MAGICALLY ridership jumped straight up as the regions began operating their own commuter services. There's much to do 30 years later but shit's better than it's been in ages.
Now electrify Trondheim-Storlien pls.
