>>1352228I'm not sure if these are more to slow people down before the road or to keep vehicles out considering in many places a vehicle could just drive around them. There are also plenty spots that don't have them at all. I usually pass them with a quick zig-zag motion, occasionally a bit too fast for my own good. Even "locked" they swing upwards of a foot, so to my surprise discovered they are not ideal to hang onto while stopped. At least during the winter they open them all up so the paths can get ploughed.
They installed them in the middle of a curve at a new rail crossing this month. Which is a bit awkward to ride around.
