how wide is the handlebar clamp on a typical 31.8mm bike stem?
the reason for asking is i ordered a no logo 3t aeronova knockoff from Betty's Carbon Fiber Bicycle Accessories in 3k gloss finish but i received ud gloss. the ud gloss doesn't match my saddle (the 3k looks hella nice imo) and there's a few cosmetic defects on the tops which are noticeable against the plain ud surface. Betty's seem to not have any more 3k gloss since they offered a meager $5 discount off my next purchase and that's if i'm ok with another ud gloss handlebar. before i try to get a 3k gloss handlebar from another seller though i noticed that the clamp area is a bit narrow on the 40cm handlebar. the grippy texture is 40mm wide and the flat section on either side is 5mm before it tapers into the aero flat section on the tops. the mounting bracket for my front light is 13mm wide. i can probably shim it to get it over the tapered section but it looks like it would get extremely tight and i might have to modify the bracket itself depending on how wide the stem clamp is.
the 40cm handlebar width seems right for me because when your torso is leaning forward your arms aren't restricted so much by your rib cage and muscles/fat. i could probably deal with even narrower bars but this is the narrowest size of this model (40cm at the drops, 38cm at the hoods).
