Crosscountry in particular are often overcrowded to the point of actually being dangerous. Even in the "off peak" times.
This is compounded by them being a long distance operator but still having commuters who get on for like one stop because they won't wait 3 minutes for the stopper. And also because for some routes there genuinely isn't a commuter TOC people could get (for example Burton to Derby)
